About Dr C

I am an Oakland native and a UC Berkeley graduate (B.A. Physics, with honors, 1986). My love of the ocean led me to sea with the NOAA Corps of Commissioned officers, and eventually to a Ph.D. in Geophysics (1998) at the University of Washington.

I have worked and taught at UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara and North Carolina State University. My love of teaching led me out of academia and into K-12 marine education with Ocean and You . All told, I have 30 years of experience conducting scientific research, writing scientific papers, and teaching science.

If your student needs help with English language and literature, I can help there too. I am a voracious reader, a writer and storyteller, and a huge Shakespeare fan.
